Angels and Stars
Best Themed Christmas tree contest
On the day our daughter, Hailey, was born 12 years ago, my husband Kurt, said she looked like an angel. So every Christmas since, he has given her an angel ornament with a short but beautiful note to tell why he gave her this particular ornament. When she was three, it was a teletubby toy (he added wings) because she loved that TV show. Another year it was a angel made from a native Hawaiian flower to commemorate our trip to the islands.
When our son, Keegan, was born two years later, my husband kept up the tradition with him. But instead of angels, my son gets some sort of star. One year, my husband made a star out of legos and there is one that is a truck with a star on it.
This year, my daughter decorated the entire tree on her own and decided that she was only going to add the stars and angels (with a few glass balls thrown in). Usually, we usually have the tree loaded with ornaments representing many events in our lives. This year's tree is special as it only has 22 ornaments. We are anxiously awaiting Christmas eve when my husband will present the kids with this year's ornaments and his lovely words of love to each.
